Bangalore Metro Phase-II

The Karnataka state government approved the Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project in 2011 and the Indian government in 2014. The Phase 2 project consists of 73.921 kilometres of new routes. Construction began on September 15, 2015 on Reach-2A of the Purple Line (Mysore Road - Pattanagere).

There are 13.885 kilometres of new track, of which 13.885 kilometres will be built underground. The remainder will be built aboveground. The project faced funding issues that resulted because a majority of civil construction contracts weren't awarded until the first half of 2017. Only in 2026, after Phase 2 is completed in sections, will it be possible to construct a 13.885-kilometre underground section. When Phase 2 is operational, the network's length will be 116.19 kilometres.

The Bangalore Metro Phase-II project will connect the Phase-I network to the suburban and rural areas of the city. The project is divided into three parts: Phase-IIA, Phase-IIB, and Phase-IIC. Phase-IIA will connect East of Ramakrishna Hospital to the North of Banaswadi. Phase-IIB will connect South of Banaswadi to North of Nagatahalli. The Phase-IIC will connect the East and South of the city.
